Since my discovery of just how healthy an egg is for you, there is rarely a week where we do not have hard boiled eggs in our fridge. They are such a perfect grab-n-go snack filled with nutrients. However, I didn’t always know how to make them. I mean I knew the basics but sometimes I would crack into a batch the next day to find it hadn’t cooked all the way through, or it was impossible to peel. Today I believe I have it mastered and I want to share with you the 5 steps I believe will give you a perfectly cooked easy to peel egg.
- Place eggs into a large pot with water covering them by about an inch or two.
- Bring water to a boil.
- Once it boils, reduce to low heat and cover. Set a timer for 13-15 minutes based on your taste. Now I find 13 minutes the perfect time for “just done” yolks, but if you are worried about under-doneness go with 15 to start and then adjust to find your perfect time.
- While eggs are cooking fill a large bowl with ice and water to make an ice bath.
- Once time is up, remove the eggs from the pot and place in the ice bath.
That’s it! Let them sit in the water until they cool and then transfer to the refrigerator until ready to eat.
